Costuming the Tragic Heroine

This installation was designed to explore the perceptions of gender crimes as portrayed in theatrical settings. To do this I picked seven heroines from scripts and librettos that suffered under the constraints of society. I designed their costumes as they would be seen on stage and distressed each realistically in the manner of death attributed to the individual heroine. Finally, each costume was mounted between two acrylic sheets and suspended from the ceiling with an accompanying autopsy report or death certificate.
